Handmade rings from Copenhagen: from wax model to finished form
Share
The character of a handmade ring begins before the metal is finished. At MANĒKO, designs start as hand-carved wax forms, are cast in recycled sterling silver and finished by hand. The Found Objects collection takes its cues from objects and surfaces shaped by nature and time.
Handmade jewellery in Copenhagen: developing the wax form
Working with wax allows the design to be considered as a three-dimensional object. Curves, irregular edges and the relationship between surfaces become part of a form intended to be worn on the hand, not simply viewed from the front.
The inspirations lead in different directions. Nami draws on flowing water, Reef on geological textures and Bloom on botanical growth. The collection shares an organic approach while giving each model its own outline.
From silver base to surface
The ring's base material is recycled 925 sterling silver. Casting carries the developed form into metal, after which hand-finishing contributes to the surface and detail. Read about our silver rings for more on the material and collection.
The available finish is a separate part of the choice. A rhodium finish gives a different appearance from 24K gold plating. Both belong to a silver-based ring; the gold-plated version is not a solid gold ring. The available options are listed on each product.
Considering the gemstone and the wearer
Natural gemstones contribute colour and individual character. Stone and metal need to be considered together, so a preferred colour is best discussed in relation to a particular model. Our guide to choosing gemstone colours explains how to prepare that choice.
Before ordering, compare the ring's shape, available finish and size. Use the ring size guide and contact MANĒKO if you would like to discuss a stone or fit. See all handmade rings to find the form that interests you, and keep the jewellery care guide for advice after purchase.
