Faceted white topaz – MANĒKO gemstone selection

White topaz cuts: choosing round, oval, pear or cushion

The outline of a loose white topaz changes the proportions of a piece before any metal is added. A round stone creates a circular focus, an oval suggests direction, a pear introduces a point, and a cushion balances a square outline with rounded corners. Begin with the jewellery you want to make rather than choosing by carat weight alone.

Round white topaz: start with diameter and depth

A round outline can suit a pendant, a single centre stone or a small accent. Our 1.20 ct round white topaz is listed at 5.95 mm diameter and 4.21 mm depth. These measurements describe one stone, not a guarantee that it will fit a setting labelled “6 mm”. Ask your jeweller to check the fit.

Oval and pear cuts: consider direction and proportion

An oval can be placed along or across a design. The 2.40 ct oval white topaz measures 9.03 × 7.02 × 5.14 mm. Its length-to-width relationship matters as much as the weight when planning the visual balance. A pear-cut white topaz has a pointed end; discuss the orientation and protection of that point with the person making the setting.

Cushion white topaz: straight lines and rounded corners

A cushion shape gives a different starting point from a circle. Compare the 2.00 ct cushion white topaz with the other cuts by its 7.08 × 7.04 mm face and 4.98 mm depth. A nearly square face is not the same thing as a shallow stone, so allow room below the visible surface.

Check the stone before the setting is made

Confirm length, width, depth and the number of stones included. If you need a pair, compare two individual listings rather than assuming equal carat weights will match.
