Faceted white topaz – MANĒKO gemstone selection

Sourcing loose gemstones for bespoke jewellery: a practical brief

A bespoke jewellery project often begins with a sketch or a colour. Turning it into a useful gemstone enquiry requires a few practical specifications. Whether you are a goldsmith sourcing a centre stone or a designer planning a small collection, a clear brief makes the options easier to assess.

Describe the design and the required measurements

State the gemstone type, preferred colour, outline and approximate dimensions. Say whether the setting already exists or will be made for the selected stone. For an existing setting, include length, width and depth requirements rather than only a desired carat weight. Our oval white topaz at 9.03 × 7.02 × 5.14 mm is an example of the level of detail needed.

Specify quantity, budget and timing

Clarify whether you need one stone, two stones for earrings or several for a collection. If a visual match is important, explain which characteristics must be close. Give a budget and the date by which a selection must be agreed. Availability and any sourcing time need confirmation for the particular request; an enquiry is not a promise that a stone can be supplied.

Ask separately about treatment, origin and documentation

A natural gemstone is not automatically untreated. A supplier’s location also does not establish where a stone was mined. Ask what is known about the individual stone’s identity and treatment, which origin information is supported, and whether any laboratory document is available. If a report is essential to your project, say so before the purchase and confirm what it covers.

Use the online selection as a starting point

Compare the 2.00 ct cushion white topaz with the 3.45 ct pear white topaz to see how different outlines and measurements can shape a brief. These are individual product listings, not interchangeable stock units. Check each listing’s quantity, price and availability when choosing.
